An autochthonous Spanish bovine breed from the western area of Cantabria, it inhabits mountain areas and difficult pastures, being able to withstand low temperatures without any problem.

The most common coat in breeding males is almost black, with a clear ‘stripe’ running along their back. The cow is brown with various shades, and the calves are red at birth, and from a year and a half to two years of age, their color turns dark.

The horns present different shapes, although the typical one is long, open, slightly twisted, and with a white base and black tip.

Its appearance is lean, agile, and angular, with a predominance of the forequarters. It has a determined and elastic gait, and its character is temperamental and lively.
