Deciduous tree with a low stature, a very open crown due to its branching, often emerging almost at ground level.

Curiosities

Its latex has been used to cure warts, soften calluses, fight tooth decay, and curdle milk. And the leaves have been used to wrap cheeses (like Cabrales cheese) and to sand traditional earthenware jugs (botijos).

Leaves Deciduous, alternate, simple and rough to the touch, palmate with 3 to 5 lobes.
Flowers/Fruit The male flowers are not functional and therefore act as females with high fruit production. The fig or 'breva' (its edible fruit) is globose in appearance, yellowish-green or purple in color, and has fleshy, sweet pulp.
Climate/Habitat It prefers deep, dry, and sunny soils.
