The linden is a deciduous, long-lived tree (it lives for more than five hundred years). It is used as an ornamental tree in parks, squares, and gardens, adding to its appeal the fact that it provides abundant shade and resists environmental pollution well.
Curiosities
It is the sacred tree of the Baltic and Germanic peoples. Its calming and sedative properties, in the form of linden tea (tila infusion), are well known.
