A sturdy tree that can exceed 40 m, with a straight trunk and dense canopy that casts a deep shade. Its bark is characterized by resembling a mosaic of green, gray, and yellow tones, which peels off easily in large plates.

It is a hybrid of the oriental and western plane tree.
The wood has a brownish, hard heartwood, making it suitable for cabinetmaking, cartwrighting, toy making, and it has even been used for railway sleepers.
