Zoos are obligated to conduct serious research projects “that result in the conservation of species“.
Therefore, they must be a source of scientific knowledge made available to universities, research institutions, and organizations committed to nature conservation. This is to contribute to the conservation of wild species and their habitats, and through these conservation actions, to be able to raise awareness, via educational programs that disseminate the importance of biodiversity and its preservation for the benefit of nature and the human species.
More than a hundred animal species from five continents live in Cabárceno under a semi-wild regime, housed in vast enclosures where one or more species coexist.
Cabárceno is also a magnificent botanical garden, providing shelter to multiple species of plants and trees in what we now affectionately call “El Pulmón de Cabárceno”.
