Atrocious Willow

Deciduous tree, with extensive branching. In Cabárceno Nature Park, its prunings are very commonly used to feed folivorous animals, such as gorillas, and herbivores, such as giraffes and elephants.

It is used in basketry, due to the strips made from its wood, which is soft and easy to work with.

Height Up to 12 m.
Leaves Oblong-lanceolate in shape, with an entire or finely serrated margin.
Flowers/Fruit The flowers emerge in spring on long filaments (catkins); their fruits are capsules that open upon ripening and release seeds wrapped in a cottony tissue that aids their dispersal by wind.
Climate/Habitat It dominates in regions with a Mediterranean and dry climate.
